PCB changes selection criteria after T20 World Cup exit

In response to the early exit of the Men in Green from the T20 World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Monday that participation in domestic cricket will be mandatory for selection in the national team. This decision was made during a meeting led by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

The PCB decided to review domestic player contracts and develop a plan to enhance domestic cricket quality at all levels. Naqvi emphasized the importance of promoting high-quality domestic cricket, with tournaments organized from club to national level.

To ensure professional development, top-tier coaches will be hired to groom players, bridging the gap between domestic and international cricket. A master coach will also be appointed to train domestic cricket coaches, with a focus on nurturing fresh talent.

Naqvi stressed that player selection would be based solely on performance and fitness, ensuring merit-based choices without compromise. The meeting also reviewed the domestic cricket structures of India, Australia, England, and New Zealand to incorporate best practices.
