Sheikh Rasheed criticises rising utility costs

WEB DESK: Former federal minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has voiced concerns over rising utility bills and the worsening economic difficulties facing ordinary citizens.

In a recent video message, Rasheed expressed dismay at the high gas bills, revealing that his bill had reached Rs1 lac despite minimal usage.

“Since my detention, we haven’t used the stove in the afternoon. I have breakfast from a cart, and we only cook in the evening, yet the gas bill is one lakh rupees,” Rasheed explained.

He noted that residents in inner-city areas are dealing with gas bills between Rs 6,000 and Rs 8,000.

Addressing the country’s leaders, Rasheed warned of a potential “blind revolution” as people struggle under relentless inflation.

“The country is sinking; we are facing an economic and political disaster. It’s crucial to understand that the situation is slipping out of control. Thieves and robbers have come to absolve their cases and have extinguished the hearth of the poor,” he commented.

Sheikh Rasheed also highlighted the severe impact on the impoverished, stressing that the crisis goes beyond electoral issues. “This is not a fight over forms 45 and 47; it is a struggle for the survival of the poor. Responsible authorities must act to save the poor from perishing, for God’s sake,” he urged.

Furthermore, he disclosed that his electricity bill had skyrocketed to Rs 168,000.
