Has Karachi airport been secretly sold for $1.8 billion?

Pakistan is continuing with its efforts to sell off state-owned assets that are losing money in order to stabilize the country’s fragile financial situation.

Recently, there were reports suggesting that Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport had been secretly sold for $1.8 billion. These claims circulated widely on social media, sparking various reactions.

However, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) quickly denied these rumors. A spokesperson for the PCAA dismissed the reports as false and confirmed that the airport remains under PCAA control.

The PCAA also took to social media to issue an official clarification, emphasizing the importance of relying on credible sources for accurate information and warning against spreading unverified rumors that could cause unnecessary confusion.

Earlier, the Pakistani government had put on hold its plans to outsource Karachi and other airports. This postponement was made to give both international and local bidders additional time to carry out their due diligence.
