T20 world cup: Cummins sets record with second straight hat-trick (Video)

Australia showcased a stellar performance with the ball in their T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match against Afghanistan in Kingstown.

Despite a strong start from Afghanistan, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring 60 and Ibrahim Zadran adding 51 in a 118-run partnership, Australia managed to restrict them to 148/6 in 20 overs.

Mitchell Marsh led the comeback, but the highlight was pacer Pat Cummins, who made history by securing back-to-back hat-tricks in the tournament.

In the previous match against Bangladesh, Cummins achieved his first T20I hat-trick. He followed it up by dismissing Rashid Khan on the last ball of the 18th over, and then taking the wickets of Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib on the first two balls of the 20th over against Afghanistan, marking a historic achievement in T20 cricket.

Despite the fast bowler’s heroics, Australia failed to chase down the target. Apart from Glenn Maxwell, who scored 59 off 41 deliveries, none of the Aussie batters made any major contribution.

Now, Australia need to beat India in their final Super 8 match to qualify for the semi-final.
