Sindh government to buy expensive cars for officials

Despite widespread poverty and unemployment in the province, the Sindh government has finalized plans to buy a new fleet of expensive cars for hundreds its officers.

The Sindh government plans to use the current financial year’s funds to purchase vehicles before the next budget. These include 1300 cc Toyota Yaris cars, averaging Rs4.9 million each, for Assistant Commissioners in urban areas, and 4×4 Double Cabin Standard Edition cars, costing Rs10 million each, for officers in rural areas

The Sindh government has also planned to buy even more expensive cars for Deputy Commissioners across the province’s 31 districts and 150 sub-divisions.

In an interview with the Express Tribune, Provincial Minister for Development and Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, defended the proposed car purchases, stating that they were a necessary expenditure.

He stated that funds for the vehicles had already been allocated in the current financial year’s budget. “These cars are essential for official duties, and the government is not wasting money on luxuries,” he added.
