I have turned down many Bollywood offers, prioritised working in Pakistan: Mehwish Hayat

KARACHI: Mehwish Hayat, a prominent actress in Pakistani cinema, revealed in a recent podcast interview that she has turned down multiple offers to work in Bollywood films, despite receiving numerous opportunities.

The revelation came as a surprise during the discussion, where Hayat explained her decision by highlighting the ample work opportunities available to her in Pakistan. She emphasized her integral role in the revival of Pakistani cinema, having been part of some of its most successful films.

“I have countless opportunities here in Pakistan. I have been part of the revival of Pakistani cinema and some of its biggest and most successful films. I have received immense respect and love in my country,” said the acclaimed star of “Actor in Law.”

Mehwish Hayat expressed hesitation in exploring opportunities across the border, citing the respect and love she has garnered in her homeland as a significant factor in her decision-making.

“After receiving so much recognition and success in my country, I felt that I should not accept offers from Bollywood,” she added.

“I am enjoying my work in my country. People come to watch my films with their families, and it is a big success,” vowed Hayat, known for her roles in films like “Na Maloom Afraad” and “Punjab Nahi Jaungi.”

In 2019, Mehwish Hayat was honored by the Pakistani government with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for her outstanding contributions to the arts, solidifying her position as a leading figure in the country’s entertainment industry.
