The New York Police Department (NYPD) has offered to train the Sindh police in dealing with street crime, petty crimes, intelligence work, traffic management, and vigilance.
The offer was made by the American Law Enforcement Society (PALES) of the NYPD during a meeting with Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. The PALES delegation was led by Rohail Khalid, comprising 22 officers of different police departments including Integrity Control, Traffic Enforcement, Intelligence, Training Bureau, Identification Bureau, Patrol and others.
During the meeting, different matters were discussed such as the issue of terrorism and street crimes in the provincial capital. The members of the delegation stated that a mere 10% of the population were involved in committing crimes against the remaining 90%. They proposed devising a strategic plan to ensure that criminals were aware of surveillance.
CM Murad Ali Shah thanked the NYPD for the offer to train Sindh police. He directed the Inspector General of Police to assess the proposal and present a plan for sending police officers to New York for training.
The PALES delegation also held a meeting with IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon at the Central Police Office (CPO) Karachi. During the meeting, both the sides agreed to designate DIG Headquarters and IT as focal points for facilitating collaborative efforts between the two departments.
