Individual fatally falls into KLM Aircraft engine at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam

WEB DESK: A person died after falling into the engine of a KLM aircraft just before it departed from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

The passengers and crew onboard witnessed the tragic incident and were offered counseling support. Reports suggest that the aircraft, bound for Billund in Denmark, was in reverse motion at the time.

The circumstances surrounding the fall, whether accidental or intentional and the identity of the individual involved remain unclear. Nevertheless, authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.

In a statement released by the airport, condolences were extended to the victim’s relatives, focusing on providing care to affected passengers and staff. The Royal Military Police is leading the investigation into the incident. Emergency services responded swiftly to the alarm raised just before 3pm.

According to a police spokesperson, the individual fell into the running engine, resulting in fatal injuries. Passengers and staff of flight KL1341 were safely disembarked and attended to. The Dutch Safety Board has dispatched investigators to the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported a distressing scene, with a loud noise and visible smoke emanating from the engine following the incident. The aircraft was reportedly in the process of preparation for takeoff when the tragedy occurred.

KLM expressed deep regret over the incident, confirming the fatality and pledging support to those affected. Police emphasised the importance of passenger accounts in their investigation.

Despite the tragic outcome, authorities need to determine the sequence of events leading to the accident for prevention measures in the future. Officials, including the infrastructure minister and KLM’s chief executive, conveyed condolences and assured ongoing investigations into the incident.
