Indian customer finds human finger in ice cream, investigation launched

MUMBAI: A chilling discovery has turned an online ice cream delivery into a disturbing incident in Mumbai, India. Dr. Brandon, a 26-year-old MBBS doctor, found a severed human finger in his ice cream, prompting an immediate police investigation.

The incident began when Dr. Brandon ordered a butterscotch ice cream cone from the Yumno app. In a video statement shared with Indian media, he recounted his shock: “While consuming half of the ice cream, I felt something hard in my mouth. Upon investigation, I realised it was a severed human finger, complete with visible fingernails.”

Recognising the object immediately, Dr. Brandon preserved the finger in the freezer and contacted the authorities. The Mumbai Police have since filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the company involved. The 1.5 cm long piece of the finger has been forwarded to forensic experts for further examination.

The ice cream company, Yummo Ice Creams, responded swiftly to the claim. “We have escalated the matter since receiving the complaint about a foreign object in our product,” a company spokesperson stated. “We have halted manufacturing at the third-party facility, isolated the affected product at our warehouses, and are doing the same at the market level. Product quality and safety are our highest priorities. We will fully cooperate with the authorities in investigating this matter.”

The incident unfolded late Wednesday night when Dr. Brandon’s family, residing in Mumbai’s Malad area, ordered three ice creams – two mango-flavored and one butterscotch – through an online delivery platform. Dr. Brandon’s brother, Brendan Ferrao, was the one who bit into the butterscotch ice cream and discovered the severed finger.

The family immediately reported the incident to the police. “We received a complaint stating that a piece of flesh was found in the ice cream ordered online. We have taken the piece for investigation. A case under sections 272, 273, and 336 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the ice cream company. We are investigating the case,” said Ravi Adane, Senior Police Inspector, Malad Police Station.
