Price of Naswar raised to Rs30

WEB DESK: The price of Naswar has been raised to Rs30, according to Iftikhar Firdous. Iftikhar Firdous, in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter, wrote, “Seems like social unrest is going to erupt as the price of Naswar has been raised to Rs30 with an increase of Rs10 by the Centrak Naswar Union.”

In addition, according to the budget for 2024-25 of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 80% of the tobacco is produced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the federal government holds transactions related to tobacco.

Moreover, the provincial government has proposed an increase in tobacco tax to increase provincial revenue. The provincial government has increased the rate of tobacco development cess in the province, under which a cess of Rs. 50 per kilogram on Virginia tobacco, Rs. 30 per kilogram of White Patta, and Rs. 7.5 per kilogram of Naswar tobacco has been imposed. This has made Naswar expensive as well.
