LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced a revision in school timings across the province following the recent improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI) across the region.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a notification, stating that all public and private schools will be required to open after 8:15 am from December 4, 2024.
“These measures are aimed at preventing environmental pollution and have been implemented to safeguard the health of students and teachers,” the notification, with the approval of EPA Director General Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, wrote.
DG EPA stated that legal action would be taken against schools that violate such new timings.
Earlier on November 20, the Punjab government reopened schools in Lahore and Multan after easing restrictions imposed due to dangerously high smog levels in Lahore and other cities of Punjab.
The schools were reopened with SOPs including the mandatory face mask and ban on outdoor activities. All outdoor sports and co-curricular activities will remain suspended in the educational institutions.
