Four British-Pakistani candidates elected to UK parliament

The UK Labour Party has achieved a historic landslide victory in the 2024 elections, securing over 400 seats.

This significant win means Keir Starmer will become the next Prime Minister of Britain, bringing an end to 14 years of Conservative governance.

The elections also marked a notable increase in the representation of ethnic minorities in UK politics, with four candidates of Pakistani origin winning seats in Parliament.

  • Zubir Ahmed from Glasgow, running on a Labour Party ticket, won his seat. Ahmed’s campaign, which focused on community development and social justice, resonated strongly with voters, reinforcing Labour’s strong presence in Glasgow
  • Naushabah Khan, another Labour Party candidate, also secured a seat, taking it from the Conservative Party. Her emphasis on healthcare improvements and economic reforms garnered significant support from her constituency.
  • Saqib Bhatti, representing the Conservative Party, was re-elected. Bhatti’s victory reflects his strong rapport with his constituents and his effective advocacy for local businesses and economic growth.
  • Rosena Allin-Khan, also of Pakistani origin, retained her seat for the Labour Party. Her continued focus on healthcare and her work as an NHS doctor have earned her enduring trust and support from her electorate, solidifying her status as a key political figure in her area.
