A five-member delegation from Facebook (META) met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday to discuss developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology (IT) in Pakistan, as reported by HUM news.

The delegation, led by Simon Milner, Facebook’s Vice President for Asia Pacific, engaged in talks about advancing the country’s digital sectors.

The meeting follows PM Shehbaz’s recent announcement of a record budget allocation aimed at promoting IT and AI in Pakistan, marking a significant investment in these key areas.

During the discussions, the Facebook team provided an overview of the company’s activities and services in Pakistan and the broader Asia Pacific region. They also highlighted their role in organising the region’s first artificial intelligence competition, which took place in Pakistan and aimed to foster innovation and nurture local AI talent.

Furtherm underscored the importance of leveraging Facebook’s technological expertise to enhance Pakistan’s IT and AI capabilities. He instructed relevant authorities to address and resolve any operational issues concerning Facebook’s activities within the country.

Sharif emphasised the need for collaboration between the government and international tech leaders like Facebook to further advance Pakistan’s digital media and AI sectors. He highlighted Pakistan’s significant potential in the AI field and stressed the importance of ongoing investment and support.
