WEB DESK: TikTok has unveiled an exciting new feature called ‘Sound Search,’ designed to enhance how users discover music on the platform. This innovative tool, reminiscent of Shazam, enables users to identify songs by singing, humming, or playing them.
The ‘Sound Search’ feature not only identifies the music but also displays trending videos linked to the identified track, aligning with TikTok’s focus on video content. It extends its functionality to recognising popular TikTok sounds and memes as well.
In trials, ‘Sound Search’ successfully identified various well-known TikTok memes, such as the “Oh my gosh, she’s bald. She’s bald, and she’s torturing people who have hair!” clip from “Totally Spies,” and the “Nobody’s gonna know” sound, originally created by a TikTok user.

To utilise ‘Sound Search,’ users need to tap the microphone icon located in the Search Tab within the app. Currently, this feature is available to a select group of users, and there is no information yet regarding its availability in specific regions.
Unlike Shazam, which does not support the identification of hummed melodies, the latest update to Shazam now includes the ability to recognise songs from apps like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
TikTok remains available for free on the App Store and requires an iPhone or iPad running iOS 12 or later. Users should ensure they have the latest app version to access the new ‘Sound Search’ feature.
