Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has outlined his plans for the future after being named mentor of the Dolphins for the upcoming Champions One-Day Cup, set to take place in Faisalabad from 12-29 September.

Sarfaraz, 37, is the most active player among the five mentors announced for the tournament. He described his new role as a valuable learning opportunity, while also confirming his continued availability for both domestic and international cricket.

“This is a great opportunity for me to learn and to help identify talent that can represent Pakistan in the future,” Sarfaraz said during a press conference. “I will be available for Pakistan whenever I’m selected, and I’ll fulfill my domestic duties as well.”

Sarfaraz expressed optimism about his playing career, stating, “I feel I can still play, and I will continue to do so as long as I am able.”

In light of Pakistan’s recent 2-0 Test series loss to Bangladesh, Sarfaraz called on fans to support the national team, emphasizing the importance of backing players in the upcoming Champions Cup.

Reflecting on his selection process for the Dolphins, Sarfaraz revealed that he had worked closely on assembling the team from a pool of 150 players, with a focus on developing Under-19 talent.

“In just twelve to fourteen days, it’s not possible to fix everything,” he said. “But we will now strive to set Pakistan cricket on the right path.”

The Champions One-Day Cup will feature five teams, each led by a prominent figure in Pakistan cricket:

  • Shoaib Malik – Stallions
  • Misbah-ul-Haq – Wolves
  • Waqar Younis – Lions
  • Saqlain Mushtaq – Panthers
  • Sarfaraz Ahmed – Dolphins

The tournament will be held at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, with the final scheduled for 29 September.
