The game of numbers surrounding constitutional amendments is intensifying. The government’s primary focus is convincing Maulana Fazlur Rehman, but whether he has agreed or the deadlock remains unresolved is still unclear.
The government has yet to present the draft of the constitutional amendments to the federal cabinet and parliament. Following a recent meeting with government representatives, a delegation from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including Shibli Faraz and Asad Qaiser, promptly arrived at Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence. Their meeting was extended, during which the PTI leaders joined Maulana Fazlur Rehman for the Maghrib prayer.

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) parliamentary party has departed from Maulana’s residence towards parliament. JUI has urged the government not to rush the constitutional amendment process. Sources indicate that Maulana Fazlur Rehman will present his demands before the special committee in parliament.
It is noteworthy that a two-thirds majority in both the National Assembly and the Senate is required for the constitutional amendment.
