The government has initiated the registration of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) through a streamlined process on the websites of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB).

Moreover, this move aims to ensure secure and uninterrupted internet services for software houses, call centers, freelancers, and foreign missions in light of ongoing internet disruptions in the country.

The PTA highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating that over 20,000 IPs have been registered for VPNs since 2020, and that the registration process is continually being refined.

In addition, users are encouraged to register their VPNs on the PTA’s official portal to maintain secure online operations.

Despite assurances from government officials, including State Minister of Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja, that the state is not deliberately slowing down or shutting down internet services, significant disruptions have been reported. These include slower internet speeds, blocked platforms like X (formerly Twitter), and challenges with messaging services such as WhatsApp.
