ISLAMABAD: The first round of talks between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), chaired by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, ended on a positive note.

The two-hour session, held at Parliament House, was described as a significant step forward. Both sides expressed goodwill and agreed to continue negotiations, with the next round scheduled for January 2.

The government team included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Rana Sanaullah, Irfan Siddiqui, Naveed Qamar, Raja Pervez Ashraf, and Dr. Farooq Sattar.

PTI was represented by Asad Qaiser, Hamid Raza, and Allama Nasir Abbas, with some PTI members unable to attend due to legal commitments abroad.

PTI leader Asad Qaiser revealed the party’s key demands, including the release of PTI’s founder and the formation of a judicial commission comprising senior judges. The opposition committee also presented preliminary demands, with detailed written proposals expected in the next session.

Both sides highlighted Parliament as a crucial platform for resolving national issues and expressed optimism about the negotiation process. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to supporting anti-terrorism efforts and paid tribute to the martyrs of the war on terror.

PTI Demands Include Release of Imran Khan: Asad Qaiser

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser announced that the government has agreed to PTI’s demand for a meeting with the party’s founder. Formal negotiations are set to resume on January 2.

Speaking to reporters, Qaiser said that PTI’s key demands, including the release of their founder chairman Imran Khan, and the establishment of a commission comprising senior judges.

He described the initial meeting as positive.

PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui confirmed that the opposition will submit written demands in the next session. Both sides expressed goodwill and stressed the importance of Parliament as a platform for resolving disputes.

Additionally, participants reaffirmed their commitment to supporting anti-terrorism efforts and paid tribute to the martyrs of the war on terror.
