DUBAI: Four Pakistani men were sentenced to two years in imprisonment and fined a collective Dh1 million for kidnapping and robbing two Indians in the United Arab Emirates.

According to the Khaleej Times, the court sent the accused to jail for impersonating police officers to kidnap and rob two Indian men on March 29 within the jurisdiction of Al Rafaa Police Station in Dubai.

The court said that a Pakistani driver working for the Indian victims conspired with three other Pakistanis and a fugitive to kidnap and rob the victims after learning they carried a large amount of cash.

On the morning of March 29, while driving the victims to Dubai’s Gold Souk, the driver provided his gang members with the victims’ location. Two of the accused, traveling in a black Kia, posed as police officers stopped the victims, and forced them into separate vehicles.

The gang stole Dh1 million, two mobile phones, and two wallets from the victims before releasing them. Upon receiving the complaint, police investigated the matter and arrested the five suspects.

As the suspects confessed the crime, the court confirmed that one of the accused was identified as the mastermind behind the operation, while two others played key roles in impersonating police officers and executing the robbery.

However, the court found the fifth accused not guilty based on a lack of evidence and testimonies of the other accused that corroborated his claim of non-involvement.
