ISLAMABAD: Islamabad’s Anti-Terrorism Court discharged 32 accused arrested in connection with a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest at D-Chowk
The accused, who had been detained in Jhelum Jail, were presented in court before Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain.
During the proceedings, ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain expressed his anger and warned the police that if they arrested the individuals again, he would have the officers handcuffed.
The court was informed by the investigating officer that the accused were taken into custody on November 25, but the identity parade could not be held. He requested the court to grant a 30-day physical remand for each detainee.
The accused, who had been detained in Jhelum Jail, were presented in court late at night for an identity parade.
However, the defense lawyer, Ansar Kayani, argued that the police had arrested labourers from their homes to meet a quota rather than for legitimate reasons.
After hearing both sides, the court ordered the release of the 32 accused instructed the police to remove their handcuffs in the courtroom, and discharged them from the cases.
The police had shown their arrest in D-Chowk protest cases registered at I-9 and Margalla Police Stations.
