Social media went into a frenzy after several parody accounts on platform X posted alleged announcements of Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam retiring from Test cricket.

These false claims followed Pakistan’s recent 2-0 series loss to Bangladesh, where Babar faced heavy criticism for his performance.

Babar Azam, Pakistan’s white-ball captain, was the subject of multiple fake posts, including one that falsely announced his retirement from Test cricket and another that mocked his batting skills after his removal as Test captain.

However, these posts were quickly debunked as originating from parody accounts named “Jay Shah (parody)” and “Babar Azam – Parody.”

Moreover, the rumors spread rapidly, even though Babar’s official X and Instagram accounts had no such announcements.

Furthermore, the confusion was fueled by his recent underwhelming performance, where he managed only 64 runs in four innings against Bangladesh, averaging just 16. His struggles in Test cricket have been ongoing, with only 317 runs in eight matches in 2023, and his last century dating back to December 2022 against New Zealand in Karachi.
