Microsoft appears poised to unveil a new addition to its lineup of Xbox controllers, with the “Ghost Cipher Special Edition” set for an official reveal on September 24 and a subsequent release on October 8, 2024. According to a recent report by Dealabs, the new controller will retail for $69.99, with pre-orders expected to open on the day of its announcement.

This upcoming release continues Microsoft’s trend of frequently introducing new and specially-themed controllers for both Xbox console and PC gamers. While details about the Ghost Cipher’s design remain speculative, it is believed to feature a translucent finish, possibly in white, aligning with the “ghost” theme.

Last year, Microsoft launched the “Sky Cipher” controller, its first translucent design for the Xbox Series X, which came in a blue hue, leading to speculation that the Ghost Cipher might take on a different color palette.

Expanding translucent line-up

The Ghost Cipher is part of Microsoft’s broader effort to offer gamers a diverse range of controller designs, adding to the growing catalog of options. Xbox has seen strong demand for its customisable controllers, with fans having access to the Xbox Design Lab, allowing users to create personalised controllers tailored to their tastes.

The addition of another translucent variant could pave the way for a broader series of see-through controllers in the future.

While excitement is growing for the new Ghost Cipher, some Xbox enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting more substantial hardware news. Microsoft has confirmed the development of its next-generation Xbox console, though further details are yet to be disclosed. It remains to be seen if this future console will introduce a brand-new controller design or build upon the successes of the current Xbox Series X line.

For now, gamers can look forward to the Ghost Cipher Special Edition, which promises to be another stylish addition to the Xbox controller lineup.
