Two officers from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)—the DGs of NAB Karachi and NAB Sukkur—are being nominated for civil awards by NAB management for their significant efforts in combating encroachment in Sindh. Additionally, NAB management is sending three officers from NAB Sukkur and two officers from NAB Karachi to Umrah.

In a recent meeting with NAB Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah indicated that the provincial government also plans to reward its officials, some of whom are being considered for civil awards.

NAB’s top management and the Sindh government report that their collaborative efforts, endorsed by the NAB Chairman and the Sindh Chief Minister, have led to the recovery, demarcation, and registration of nearly 1.8 million acres of forestland from encroachers and illegal allottees. The value of this recovered land is estimated to exceed three trillion rupees (over Rs 3,000 billion).

According to sources, both the Sindh Chief Secretary and senior NAB officials confirmed that the 1.8 million acres of forestland have indeed been reclaimed, demarcated, and officially recorded in the Forest Department’s land registry.

NAB and the Sindh government are preparing to address encroachment and illegal allotments on state land in both urban Sindh and rural Katcha areas.

So far, the recovery and registration efforts have reclaimed 775,795 acres of riverine land, 197,000 acres of irrigated land, and 881,696 acres of rangeland, all of which were part of reserved and protected forestlands.

To achieve these results, the NAB Chairman and Sindh CM have developed a collaborative strategy. Rather than pursuing individual NAB cases, the two entities worked together to recover significant portions of state land from encroachers and illegal allottees.

Top NAB officials have commended the Sindh Chief Minister for his unwavering support, noting that despite political pressures, he provided full backing to the Bureau’s efforts in reclaiming this extensive amount of state land.
