Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the foundation of Pakistan’s first dedicated autism school, marking a milestone in the country’s efforts to provide specialised education and care for children with autism.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place in Lahore on Friday, with the school expected to be completed within a year, according to 24NewsHD TV.
CM Maryam highlighted the urgent need for qualified autism specialists to guide the project, ensuring the facility adheres to international standards of education and care.
She directed that these experts be consulted throughout the construction process to ensure the school is equipped to meet the specific needs of autistic children.

State-of-the-art facility with expansion potential
The planned school will comprise a two-story structure with 11 classrooms for junior students and 10 for senior students. The ground floor will include 10 cubicle speech session rooms, a therapy room, and a pre-vocational training room, in addition to daily living activity rooms and a computer lab. The school will also feature a variety of facilities designed to support students’ diverse learning needs.
On the first floor, a multi-purpose hall, committee room, library, and resource room will be constructed. The building’s design includes provisions for future expansion, with the possibility of adding two additional floors, providing further capacity as demand grows.
CM Maryam, addressing attendees at the event, stressed the importance of providing compassion and understanding for children with autism, describing the school as a critical step toward ensuring they receive the care and educational support they require.
