ISLAMABAD: Former national cricket team spin bowler Abdul Rehman has been appointed as the spin bowling coach of the Pakistani team.

According to media reports, Abdul Rehman, the newly appointed spin bowling coach, has joined the national cricket team in Multan.

Abdur Rehman, who made his debut for Pakistan during the ODI home series against West Indies, will coaching Pakistan in the series.

Left-arm spinner Abdul Rehman played for the national cricket team from 2006 to 2014.

During this time, he took a total of 140 wickets in Tests, One-Day Internationals and T20 Internationals.

Abdul Rehman hails from Sialkot, Punjab. He was previously part of the coaching staff of the Pakistan women’s team. This will be Abdul Rehman’s first experience as a spin bowling coach with the national team.

The Pakistan Test cricket team is currently in Multan for two Test matches home series against West Indies. Shan Masood leads Pakistani side. The first match of the two-Test series, part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), will begin on January 17.

The Pakistan Cricket Board’s selection committee has announced a 15-member squad against the West Indies.

According to the announcement made by the selection committee, the national Test team will be led by Shan Masood. In addition, 3 spinners Noman Ali, Abrar Ahmed and Sajid Khan have been included in the team.

Shan Masood (C), Saud Shakeel (VC), Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq, Abrar Ahmed, Kashif Ali, Khurram Shahzad,Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Mohammad Ali, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Huraira, Noman Ali, Rohail Nazir (WK), Salman Ali Agha and Sajid Khan.

Two-Match Test series schedule:

First Test: January 17-21, Multan Cricket Stadium

Second Test: January 25-29, Multan Cricket Stadium

After the Test series, Pakistan will host a tri-nation One-Day International (ODI) series with New Zealand and South Africa starting on February 8.  New Zealand and South Africa already announced their squads for the series and the ICC Champions Trophy, set to start on February 19.
