LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said that the national team’s young opening power hitter Saim Ayub will be sent to London for treatment.
Saim Ayub fractured his right ankle on the opening day of the ongoing second and final Test against South Africa at Cape Town.
After the injuries, the doctors ruled out of cricket for at least six weeks, putting his participation in serious doubt for next month’s Champions Trophy.
He said that the decision to send Saim Ayub to London for treatment was taken after consultations with doctors.
Chairman PCB said that he spoke to Saim Ayub and inquired after his health and wished him a speedy recovery.
He said that Sports orthopedic specialists in London will oversee Ayub’s treatment, with Pakistan’s Dr. Mamrez coordinating medical reports sent from Cape Town.
He said he would be sent to London on the first available flight, and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood would accompany him.
Naqvi expressed confidence in Ayub’s full recovery before the Champions Trophy and assured all resources would be used for his treatment.
“An MRI conducted Friday afternoon confirmed the fracture, which has been immobilized in an Ankle Medical Moon Boot,” the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement on Saturday.
