The Sindh government has decided to impose a tax on domestic and international airline tickets, following the lead of the federal government.

Airlines are already feeling the impact of this decision. The Sindh government has issued letters to all six local airlines and four foreign airlines operating in Pakistan.

It has instructed them to charge an additional Rs 50 tax on all domestic tickets and Rs 400 on international tickets starting from July.

Previously, the federal government had also imposed a tax ranging from Rs 5,000 to 12,500 on tickets for international routes. Airlines now face the challenge of integrating this new tax imposed by the Sindh government into their existing systems, especially since most tickets are booked online and many flights involve connections through foreign countries.

Airlines are concerned about how to efficiently collect this tax and transfer it to the Sindh government within the specified timeframe. To address these issues, a meeting between airline representatives and the Sindh government is expected to take place soon.
