The provincial government of Punjab has decided to close all public and private schools across the province ahead of the earlier announced schedule of summer vacations.
According to Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, schools will now close on May 22 instead of June 1 due to the intensity of the heat.
The decision to start early summer holidays garnered great support from parents, with 96% expressing their approval. In a video statement, Rana Sikandar Hayat stressed importance of ensuring the health and safety of students, particularly in light of the prevailing heat wave.

The minister further stated that the wellbeing of the students is their utmost priority. “Given the extreme temperatures, it is crucial to take preventive measures to ensure their safety,” he added.
Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed the commencement of summer vacation for all public and private schools on May 22. He clarified that the decision would not affect schools conducting exams.
The provincial government is expected to issue a notification regarding the early holidays today. Previously, the Punjab government had announced summer vacation from June 1 to August 14 in response to the severe heat wave.

The Punjab Education Department has issued an official notification regarding the early closure of schools. Despite the education minister’s statement, the department has clarified that vacations will begin from May 25th, not May 22nd.
