WEB DESK: Salman Akram Raja, the Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stepped down from his position on Thursday, November 28, citing personal reasons.
According to party insiders, his resignation has been submitted to the PTI leadership, with Barrister Gohar Khan, the PTI Chairman, confirming the development.
This resignation comes at a critical juncture following PTI’s protest on November 24. The event stirred controversy within the party, as PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leader Shaukat Yousafzai questioned the leadership of PTI Punjab.
Expressing his disappointment over the D-Chowk incident, Yousafzai criticised the Punjab leadership’s absence, asking whether the party would be led by Bushra Bibi or its formal leadership. He suggested that those unable to take responsibility should resign.
Reacting to Yousafzai’s remarks, Salman Akram Raja earlier stated that November 24 marked one of the worst days in PTI’s history. Addressing the criticism, Raja explained that PTI Lahore was actively protesting, but all routes were blocked, leaving no way for members to reach the venue. “The entire city of Lahore was turned into a prison,” he remarked.
The resignation adds to the growing tensions within PTI as it grapples with internal leadership challenges and external political pressures.
