A Senate Standing Committee meeting has unveiled a startling claim that Pakistanis are allegedly responsible for 50 percent of the crimes committed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The revelation came during a session chaired by Senator Zeeshan Khanzada, where the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development briefed the committee on the issue.

The ministry highlighted that while two million Pakistanis in Saudi Arabia send $7 billion in foreign exchange annually, there is an urgent need to halt the export of unskilled workers. This concern is underscored by the committee’s request for details on 4,000 employment companies amid rising worries about the high involvement of Pakistanis in criminal activities abroad.

In a related disclosure, it was revealed that 92 nurses were deported from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan due to lacking proper qualifications.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed embassies to prioritise economic diplomacy, according to the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, the ministry also voiced concerns over the behaviour of some Pakistanis abroad, particularly the creation of inappropriate TikTok videos.

The secretary reported incidents of Pakistanis making TikTok videos that mock people’s clothing, actions which have displeased foreign countries and raised questions about the attitudes and morals of Pakistani citizens overseas. However, specific details about the individuals involved in making these videos were not provided.

The meeting highlights significant issues regarding the conduct and representation of Pakistanis abroad, underscoring the need for better oversight and higher standards for workers sent overseas.
