The snow season in Murree will officially begin from December 15, 2024, to March 15, 2025.
The tourist influx is expected to begin during the winter holidays which are likely to start after December 20.
In this regard, the preparations have started and the Rawalpindi Commissioner ordered all safety and security arrangements to be finalised by December 10.
During this time, a “rain and snow emergency” will be in effect to ensure safety and smooth operations.
Arrangements ahead of snow season in Murree
A total of 19 facility centers will be established at strategic places, including the Motorway Toll Plaza and the GT Road Toll Plaza, to assist tourists and regulate vehicle entry.
When Murree reaches capacity, extra traffic will be routed. These facilities will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will provide raincoats, heaters, phones, and other necessities.
Traffic control would need the deployment of 50 more officers, while road safety will be ensured through coordination with the National Highway Authority and the Punjab Disaster control Authority.
Tourists are urged to pack supplies such as tire chains, blankets, and dried food. To prevent overcharging, Section 144 regulates hotel rents, transportation charges, and food pricing. During the snow season, ten price control magistrates will ensure that compliance is met.
Some areas in Pakistan are already covered in snow.
Earlier, the district authorities closed Naran, situated in the Kaghan Valley, and the road leading to the Babusar Top for tourists due to heavy snowfall in the region.
