Smog crisis: Motorway M2, M2, M11 closure updates

LAHORE: The National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) on Wednesday again closed several sections of motorways in Punjab province due to smog and fog in the region.

According to the spokesperson of the City Traffic and Motorway Police, Motorway M2, from Lahore to Sheikhupura, has been closed to all types of traffic due to poor visibility caused by fog and smog.

Similarly, Motorway M4, from Lahore to Darkhana, and the M11 Sialkot Motorway, from Sialkot to Sambaryal, have also been closed for the same reason.

The spokesperson further stated that the closures are necessary to ensure public safety and secure travel.

Road users are advised to travel during the day during the smog and fog season and to use both front and rear fog lights if traveling at night.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) of Lahore continued to remain in the ‘hazardous’ category on Wednesday, with the city retaining its title as the most polluted in the world.

According to a report by IQAir, which tracks real-time data of air quality worldwide, the air quality index (AQI) in Lahore reached 425 around 8:25 pm on Wednesday, making it the top-ranked city on the list of the most polluted city globally.
