Authorities in Karachi and Islamabad have enforced Section 144, imposing restrictions on public gatherings and protests to maintain order and security. Notifications outlining the measures were issued on Saturday.

In Karachi, the restrictions will remain in effect for seven days, from November 18 to November 24, prohibiting gatherings of more than five people. Protests and sit-ins have been explicitly banned during this period. The decision coincides with the IDEAS 2024 Defence Exhibition, with officials citing the need for heightened security as the primary reason for the measures.

Ban on public gatherings in Islamabad

In Islamabad, Section 144 has also been enforced, with a prohibition on public gatherings of five or more people. The Additional Deputy Commissioner issued the notification, which specifies that all religious and political assemblies in the federal capital are strictly forbidden.

Authorities in both cities have urged citizens to comply with the directives, stressing that these restrictions are temporary and intended to safeguard public safety during sensitive periods.
