LAHORE: A pet lion that escaped earlier today was shot dead in the Harbanspura area of Lahore on Saturday.

According to the details, the incident occurred when a pet big cat broke free from its cage at the outhouse in the Shalimar Housing Scheme in Harbanspura.

Police said that one of the three pet lions from Chaudhry Ali Imran’s house managed to escape and attacked at least three people, leaving them injured near Ganda Nala Road.

After the attempts to calm and cage the animal failed, security guards at the outhouse shot the lion to death.

Police arrived at the scene and initiated legal proceedings against the owner for keeping the top predator.

Another incident happened last month in Lahore where a pet lion bit the owner’s friend’s hand. However, his friends managed to free him from the animal’s grip, who appeared shaken but alive.

Animal rights activists have long warned against keeping such predators in domestic settings, citing their unpredictable behavior and the specialized care they require. But it seems to trend among those allure of social media clout. Recently, a renowned YouTuber and TikToker was arrested for accepting and keeping a lion cub.
