LAHORE: The Transport and Mass Transit Department has announced the launch of electric buses in Punjab as part of the Green Transport System. In the first phase, 27 electric buses will be introduced in Lahore.
The Punjab government has officially initiated the program of electric bus launching in the major cities, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rawalpindi. The department also shared images of the green electric buses, as services will be starting soon in Lahore.
According to the Secretary of Transport, Ahmed Javed Qazi, the electric buses meet all the comfort standards required for passenger travel. He further added that in the second phase, these green buses would finally operate in Bahawalpur, Multan, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi.
Qazi said Punjab is going to become the first province in Pakistan to have a complete Green Transport system for the public service. Work is also underway on green bus depots, which will run entirely on solar energy.
The Secretary also talked about the environmental benefits of the electric buses as such it would greatly reduce smog and much better transport to the public.
