PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has changed recruitment, promotion, and transfer rules. It has abolished the special son quota system in the public sector.

The government in a notification confirms these changes saying it amended the recruitment, promotion, and transfer rules. The notification read that it completely removed clause 4 of Rule 10, and partially removed clause 2. These clauses allowed the hiring of government employees’ children.

Now, children of government employees who die or become disabled during service will not get automatic jobs. Previously, they received employment under the son quota. Now, children of employees who pass away or become unfit for work will no longer be given jobs.

During the caretaker government, 9,762 people were recruited from January 23, 2023, to February 29, 2024. The police department hired the most, with 4,019 recruits. The municipal department hired 192, while the prisons department recruited 159.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly passed the Employees Bill 2025. This bill allows the removal of employees hired during the caretaker government’s tenure.
