According to police sources, the attack involved unidentified assailants who fired upon the vans carrying the prisoners, causing the tires to burst. Among those being transported were PTI MPs Anwar Zaib, Liaqat, and Yasir Qureshi, along with detained government employees and police officers.

As the prisoner vans approached the toll plaza, the attackers opened fire, injuring multiple police personnel in the process. These injured officers have since been transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
