ISLAMABAD: A license to drive or operate any motorised vehicle is a prerequisite for all males and females of Pakistani nationality, including Islamabad residents who are of age.

Non-compliance with these directives can attract fines and or other consequences of the law.

To be issued a driver’s licence an applicant will have to sit and pass a theoretical or practical test in addition to the four basic requirements.

Moreover, a non-refundable fee is charged by the government for issuing the license.

Lately, the application for a driver’s license has undergone radical changes since the Islamabad Traffic Police has on board a digital driver’s license enhanced with 12 security features to inhibit its forgery.

As a way to curb traffic offenses, the traffic police intend to connect this digital system with the Safe City Project, NADRA, Excise, and taxation adding that more of the services will be available on this system.

Residents of Islamabad, who possess a valid driver’s license, are eligible to request the digital version after paying the required fee.
