The government of Pakistan has declared August 14 as a public holiday. In addition to this, there are several other holidays in August that you should keep an eye on.
The optional holidays in August according to the notification “Public and Optional Holidays for the Year 2024” include:
- Nauroze (Parsi New Year Day) on August 15, Thursday.
- Birthday of Lord Zoroaster (Khordad Sal) is on August 20, Tuesday.
- Chehlum (20th Safar 1446 AH) on August 27, Wednesday.
- Janam Ashtami, the religious public holiday for Hindus, is on August 26, Monday.

“Government servants desiring to avail themselves of Optional Holidays shall take prior permission of the Head of Office concerned and no Government Servant shall be granted more than one optional holiday in the case of Muslims and three optional holidays for Non-Muslims in a calendar year,” the cabinet division notification read.
“A Government Servant should not ordinarily be refused an Optional Holiday that is of religious significance and the refusal is likely to decrease the number of such holidays to which he/she is entitled,” it added.
