In a major operation, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) arrested a woman and her son in Lahore for selling dead and underweight chickens. The raid resulted in the disposal of 970 kilograms of unsafe poultry meat.

This action was initiated by the Director General of PFA at the Tollinton Market following reports of illegal practices. Inspectors from the Meat Safety team of PFA conducted early morning checks across various shops, during which they inspected around 44,000 kilograms of meat and poultry.

Upon discovering a warehouse where dead chickens were being stored, a case was immediately registered against those involved. Despite resistance from the accused, the operation continued under the supervision of police, leading to the destruction of the contaminated meat.

The shop was found to be in extremely unhygienic conditions, with the harmful chicken meant for distribution to local food vendors and catering services.

Officials warned that the consumption of such meat poses serious health risks. DG Asim Javed advised the public to purchase only fresh, properly slaughtered chickens and urged citizens to report any suspicious activity to the helpline at 1223. The PFA has been intensifying efforts to ensure food safety across Lahore.
