Electricity price hiked by Rs 2.83 per unit: NEPRA

WEB DESK: In a startling development, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday announced a substantial hike in the electricity tariff.

Effective immediately, consumers are set to face an increased cost of Rs2.83 per unit. The decision, stemming from adjustments in March’s monthly fuel charges, is expected to result in a significant surge in electricity bills for the current month, leaving consumers to grapple with the added financial strain.

According to media reports, the tariff adjustment is anticipated to impose an additional burden of Rs26 billion on consumers, exacerbating the already mounting economic pressures experienced by households and businesses nationwide.

Despite the tariff hike, it’s noteworthy that Lifeline and K-Electric customers will be exempt from the increased charges, offering them a reprieve from the immediate impact of this tariff adjustment.
