Bangladesh govt enforces ban on social media amid protests

The government of Bangladesh has imposed a nationwide ban on social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, and YouTube, according to Global Eye News on X (formerly Twitter). This action follows an earlier shutdown of Meta-owned platforms such as Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram from July 17 to July 31 due to protests related to quota reforms.

Initially, mobile internet services were suspended on July 17, followed by broadband services on July 18. Broadband services resumed after five days on July 23, while mobile networks remained offline for ten days, finally being restored on July 28.
