WEB DESK: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has again postponed its board meeting scheduled for today (Saturday) to decide the future of the Champions Trophy 2025, planned to be held in Pakistan.
The meeting has been delayed because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not responded to the ICC and Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) conditions, which were put forward in response to the Indian Cricket Board’s refusal to play in Pakistan.
India has said that it will not participate in the Champions Trophy matches scheduled in Pakistan due to “security reasons” and has proposed playing at a neutral venue.
In response, the PCB has conditioned its acceptance of a hybrid model on Pakistan also being allowed to play its matches in tournaments hosted by India at a neutral venue outside the country at least until 2027.
The meeting fiasco has been ongoing since November 29, and it has already been postponed twice.
ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan
The international tournament is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025. The matches will take place in three cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Karachi.
The final schedule of matches for the Champions Trophy has not yet been issued due to the ongoing deadlock between the PCB and BCCI over the very issue for which today’s meeting was scheduled.
