PTI declares Friday, Nov 29 as Black Day

WEB DESK: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that Friday, November 29, will be observed as a Black Day to protest the alleged killings of party workers during recent demonstrations in Islamabad.

As revealed by party sources, the decision was taken in the meeting of the party’s political committee, which was attended by all its members.

The PTI November 24 protest was thus the major issue taken up for discussion in the meeting, besides deliberations surrounding pursuing legal action against those held responsible for the alleged violence. A detailed strategy for Black Day is about to be finalised, and soon thereafter the official communication from the party will be released.

In a press conference, Islamabad Police Inspector General (IG) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, while informing about the arrests, said that according to attendance records from 24 to 26 November, the protests have so far contributed to the arrest of 954 PTI supporters. Out of which, 610 arrested people were reported on Tuesday alone.

The law enforcers have also confiscated more than 200 vehicles and 39 different types of prohibitive weapons like Kalashnikovs and 12-bore guns discovered from the protesters as well.

At the same press conference with IG Rizvi was the Islamabad Chief Commissioner; however, while addressing the sit-in, he highlighted the essence of public order maintenance. PTI leaders, on the other hand, criticised the actions and promised to extract accountability regarding what they referred to as “unjustified actions” against their supporters.

The declaration of Black Day signifies an increase in the already tense relationship between the opposition party and the authorities, as PTI demands justice for its workers and supporters.
