An armed attack on prisoner vans at the Sangjani Toll Plaza has resulted in the escape of several inmates, including members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
The incident occurred as the police were transferring 187 suspects from a protest at D-Chowk to Attock Jail.
According to police sources, the attack involved unidentified assailants who fired upon the vans carrying the prisoners, causing the tires to burst. Among those being transported were PTI MPs Anwar Zaib, Liaqat, and Yasir Qureshi, along with detained government employees and police officers.
As the prisoner vans approached the toll plaza, the attackers opened fire, injuring multiple police personnel in the process. These injured officers have since been transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad, Ali Nasir Rizvi, announced that all prisoners who escaped from a van during a violent attack have been successfully recaptured.
The incident occurred when a convoy transporting 82 inmates to Attock Jail was ambushed near the Sangjani Toll Plaza by unidentified assailants.

Speaking to Geo News, IG Rizvi detailed that some of the inmates managed to flee during the attack, but law enforcement acted swiftly to apprehend them once again.
He confirmed that the recaptured prisoners were being transferred back to Islamabad, and the police thwarted further attempts to assist their escape.
Rizvi also revealed that among the escapees were two Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs), both of whom have since been recaptured.
The assault involved 18 to 20 attackers, including the son of one of the MPAs. The police have arrested four of the assailants, including the MPA’s son, one police officer, and two other suspects.
The swift action by law enforcement has been commended, ensuring that all escapees have been brought back into custody. Further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend any remaining accomplices involved in the attack.
