Pakistan has extended the Kartarpur Corridor Agreement with India for another five years, the Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Agreement between the Republic of India and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the facilitation of pilgrims to visit Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, Narowal, Pakistan” has been renewed for an additional five-year period,” the statement read.
Both countries had originally signed the agreement on October 24, 2019 with the initial expiration date set for October 24, 2024.
“Its renewal underscores Pakistan’s enduring commitment to fostering interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence,” the FO said.
“The agreement continues to offer visa-free access to pilgrims from India enabling them to visit the sacred site of Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, where Baba Guru Nanak, the revered founder of Sikhism, spent his final days,” the statement read.
In a separate development, the Indian government granted visas to a 82 Pakistani pilgrims for Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya’s urs in Delhi.
The five-day urs is currently taking place in India and the Pakistani pilgrims travelled via the Wagah Border.
