A social media user, Noor Khalid, took to Instagram to share his experience at the Samanabad , Lahore branch of the local fast food chain ‘Cheezious.’

He highlighted that Cheezious charges the same sales tax for both card and cash payments. He went on to add that the menu prices were ‘tax inclusive,’ but it did not specify whether the tax was 5 per cent or 16 per cent.

According to tax regulations, if a customer pays in cash, a 16 per cent sales tax should apply, whereas a 5 per cent sales tax is applicable for digital card payments.

Noor Khalid shared that he intended to pay via card and received a bill of Rs 4,580. When he inquired whether the tax applied to the bill was 16 per cent or 5 per cent, the restaurant staff responded that the bill amount would remain the same, regardless of whether he paid by card or cash.

After Noor requested that the 5 per cent tax be applied, the restaurant agreed but stated they would not provide an official receipt. They then reduced the bill to Rs4,076 without issuing a proper invoice.

Many users in the comments shared similar experiences. One user mentioned that they had already filed a case against the food chain for the same issue, while another pointed out that other restaurants are engaging in similar practices.
