The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased the electricity price by Rs. 1.74 per unit, effective from September to November 2024.
Moreover, NEPRA implemented this hike under the quarterly adjustment, which will apply to consumers across the country. The notification issued by NEPRA states that this price increase will place an additional burden of Rs. 43.23 billion on consumers.

Meanwhile, the electricity bill relief for consumers in the federal capital, Islamabad, has also been withdrawn. Consumers of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) will receive their September bills according to the rates from July 1. These measures were taken under pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which opposes subsidies on electricity and gas bills.
In addition, the IMF has also raised objections to the subsidies provided by Punjab, arguing that neither the federal nor provincial governments are authorised to offer such subsidies.
