For the first time in Pakistan, a detailed plan has been devised to digitize Rawalpindi’s transport system.

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will develop the software for this groundbreaking digital public transport project.

The project involves setting up a control room and an e-tag system at the Pirwadhai Bus Terminal. This system will collect detailed information on vehicles at the terminal, including registration numbers, owner details, vehicle color, fitness certificates, driver’s licenses, route numbers, and tracking data.

The control room will oversee all vehicles entering and exiting the terminal, allowing only those that meet safety and service standards to depart. This digitized transport system, inspired by models in Paris, London, and the U.S., is Pakistan’s first of its kind and could be expanded to other cities in Punjab if successful.

The system will enable citizens to file complaints online about public and government transport services. Rashid Ali, Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), hailed the digitalized transport initiative in Rawalpindi as a groundbreaking project.
