The Federal Ministry for Interior is dealing with a huge demand for passports as many Pakistanis, frustrated by unemployment and limited opportunities, are leaving the country.

In the last 10 years, 7.3 million Pakistanis have moved abroad for better job prospects. Official records show that 6.2 million left during the PDM government, while 1.1 million departed during the PTI’s time in power.

Approximately 3.8 million Pakistanis left the country during the PML-N government from 2013 to 2018. This was followed by 2.08 million leaving during the PDM government’s tenure, 1.13 million during the PTI government, and 0.38 million during the current PML-N regime.

During the PML-N and PDM governments, Saudi Arabia emerged as the top destination for Pakistani nationals, with 2.9 million people migrating there. The UAE was the second most popular choice, attracting 2.1 million Pakistanis.

Other destinations included Oman with 0.4 million, Qatar with 0.2 million, Malaysia with 0.1 million, the UK with 31,839, the USA with 4,000, and Japan with 3,861 migrants.

During the PTI government’s tenure, 0.62 million Pakistanis moved to Saudi Arabia, 0.29 million to the UAE, 74,000 to Oman, 64,000 to Qatar, 29,000 to Bahrain, 13,500 to Malaysia, 2,741 to the UK, and 1,309 to the USA.

The document also highlights that over 350,000 highly qualified Pakistanis left the country over the last decade, with 300,000 departing during the PML-N government and 48,000 during PTI’s rule.

Professionally, 24,500 doctors, 62,000 engineers, 13,000 teachers, 12,500 nurses, 53,000 accountants, 217,000 electricians, and 5,257 pharmacists moved abroad in search of better opportunities.
